カナダ発のギターインストバンド・INTERVALS。

一つ一つのフレーズが本当にかっこいい。

一瞬も耳を休める暇がない。

こうした、最近のプログレ、Djentが好きな方々は

マストでチェックしておかなくてはならないバンドである。

Djent以外でも、日本のマスロック系統には支持者が多そう。

ちなみに、もう一曲あげておきます。

本当に大好きなバンドなので。

こちらも非常にキャッチーかつキメキメ。

あれは中３、XJAPANにどハマりしていたときのこと。

いつものようにYoutubeでXの映像を見ていたら、オススメ欄にこの動画が出てきた。

何の気なしにとりあえずクリック。

衝撃を受けた。

こんなヘヴィーな音楽がこの世にあるなんて。

思春期・反抗期真っ盛りだった僕は、

一瞬にして彼らの虜になり、

心すらも救われた。

反抗期特有の、どこにもやりようがないストレスを、

彼らの音楽は一瞬間で包んでくれたような気がしたのだ。

メタリカ、本当にありがとう。

けど、最初の一歩としては絶対に良くないと思う。

イキすぎたテクニックは、人を失禁させる。

それを学んだ、高２の冬でした。

コピーしようとも思わないこの曲。

サムネが超笑顔のパットなのが切なすぎるけど...

Mr.Bigは僕も洋楽の世界にハマらせてくれたバンドです。

メンバーも超豪華。

何が豪華って、身長が豪華。

一番低いVoのエリックで、186cmだっけ。

BaビリーとDrパットは2m越え、

Gtポールも196cmとかだったと思う。

そしてMr.BIGは歌詞もいい。

アメリカンな明るくポップな歌詞で、

（号泣させる曲もあるけど。）

この曲も、「君にAddicted」って歌だからね。

生きる元気が湧いてくる。

元DTのリーダー兼ドラマーのMike Portnoyは現在、

このSons of Apolloというバンドに在籍している。

しかもメンバーも超豪華。

Baなんてビリー・シーンだからね。

マイキー、ビリー、お前らこの他にも色々バンド組んでるやろ。

中良すぎ。

まず驚くべきは、ギターもベースもツインネックってことですね。

【超入門】プログレメタル、まずはここから。

プログレッシブ・メタルといえば、まずはやはりこの人たち。

Dream Theater。

かくいう私も、楽曲の美しさとその圧倒的なスケールに、

衝撃を受けた一人である。

HR/HMを深掘りするようになったのも、DTのおかげかもしれない。

いや、HR/HMに限らず、

洋楽をdigるようになったのも全て彼らのおかげかも。

ちなみに、

メタル、といえばどうしてもその

激しいサウンドを第一に受け止められるが、

特にプログレやシンフォニックなメタルたちは、

歌詞もずば抜けて良いことが多い。

DTはもちろんサウンドも大好きだが、

それと同等レベルに、歌詞も大好きだ。

メタルの歌詞は普遍的なことを歌うことが多い。

生きるとは何か、とか

愛とは何か、とか。

邦楽POPSに溢れてる、みみっちい恋愛ではなく、

形而上学的な「愛そのもの」を考える、

このメタルの姿勢がたまらない。

それをゴリゴリの男たちがやっているというのもまた、

感情豊かに聞こえて面白い。

そのくらいデカい、誰もが知っているバンド。

アメリカの政治情勢まで変えたんだからね。

現在ファッション業界で流行っている「グランジファッション」も、

この男が作り上げたもの。

案の定中学高校でNirvanaにどハマりした私は、

邦書だけに留まらず洋書までも、カートの日記や伝記を読み漁り、

実際にシアトルのロックミュージアムに訪れるほどの崇拝っぷりだった。

現在でも、大尊敬しているけれど。

NirvanaといえばSmells like teen spiritがあまりにも有名だが、

ここはあえてのHeart-Shaped Boxを。

赤ちゃんがジャケットのNevermindももちろん大好きだけれど、

僕はIN UTEROが一番好み。

古き良きハードロックの本質を真っ直ぐ受け継ぐ。
